My mother broke her leg in June 2021. I wanted to find someplace close that had good therapist so I picked this facility because I thought it was a skilled nursing facility as well as a rehabilitation center. My mother was there for two weeks and I was there every day from 10 o’clock until six or later. They do not allow you to go in before 10 AM.
The girl that let us in and the guy outside were very, very friendly and helpful. I went to Rockwell Retirement Center. She would have to go down an elevator to get to the activity room or the dining room and she wouldn't have done that. The rooms were nice and big, and there were lots of closet space and stuff, but it was just too expansive for her. They have a pool table, but there weren't any activities at the time.
Some who would benefit from a Personal Care Community
I told them that at the assisted living where she had been, her joy was to sit out in the lobby and wave at people or walk around on her walker and wave at people. Now they take her out to the nurse’s station and let her wave at people and be out there and still socializing. She’s been so happy every time I’ve gone there. She’s sitting at the nurse’s station getting to at least see people and do things with them. They would do things like feeling different textures, putting her hands on a swimming noodle or little simple toys that has different types of closures on it .

It was my old high school back when I was a kid before they built a new one way back in 1954. The place was nice, and everything was spiffy inside. It's just way out of my price range. The rooms were nice and small, which is good for me because I only have a few pieces of furniture. They didn't have a pool or a gym, but they had a library, bingo, and field trips. My father is in the Advanced Health & Rehab Center of Garland. The facility is really good and he is very happy there. The administration was very good and very helpful.
They can get out for exercise and walk through the hallways, and I saw several residents doing that while I was taking my tour. I didn't see any problems with cleanliness. I have to ask to have the room cleaned because if I don’t it won’t get cleaned. A few of the floor nurses are nice but this facility needs a new director of nurses. They never answer the phone when you call to check on your love one and never get a call back when you leave a message. If you want your love one to get descent care I would not recommend this nursing home. They don’t take the time to read the names in the clothes to make sure they are putting the right clothes on your love one body.
My family member was at this facility years before she finally passed. I saw a BIG difference from when she first admitted. It used to be such a nice place but Tyla the DON has drove this place into the ground.
Employees were found just sitting around on their phones. If that's the way they act when a resident needs assistants back to their rooms, I can only imagine what it's like when they use their call bells at night. Rockwell Retirement Center had an activity room, but the staff was not as friendly as they were at the other places. The facility was rather rundown because it's an old school that they converted into an assisted living. It almost reminded me of low-income housing.
You also can drop certain things for him. My aunt has lived there for years, and I have a cousin who has also lived there, and I've never heard of any issues with them. However, I didn't get to see all their stuff because of Covid. It was an old high school that had been refurbished back in the late 1980s, so it is quite a huge building.
She’s in skilled nursing and has a clean, big room. The food has been good, and she’s been eating in her room. The staff is very caring, passionate, and very professional and takes care of her very well. Rockwall is on the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.
He’s doing rehab, and I felt comfortable with him being there. They have church service and he likes it. Even the cleaning crew there is phenomenal. I don’t have anything negative to say about this facility. I would recommend someone there for their parents because I’m very satisfied with the facility and my father is also.
